Maximizing
Your Adaptability
Can I do something to secure
positions and maintain a successful career?
Yes! Studies show that 90% of the people who are
dismissed from their positions sorely lack the Adaptive Skills. Ninety
percent of top performers who quit work for bosses who lack in the Adaptive
Skills. Investing in mastering the Adaptive Skills is an insurance policy
for getting and keeping a job and successfully progressing in a career.
You bring to the work environment, to one degree
or another, three types of skills:
- Technical Skills
enable you to do a particular type of work well. Computer programming,
eye surgery, construction, sales and hair cutting are examples.
- Basic Skills transfer
to many work settings and are used in concert with technical skills in
order to get your work accomplished. Planning, writing, speaking, organizing
and problem solving are examples.
- Adaptive Skills
contain the competencies used to get along with people, competencies which
you began to develop when you were very young. They relate to how you get
along with authority figures, the accuracy of your self concept, how critiques
from others about yourself are handled, and your ability to express your
feelings.
You will learn how to ...
- Assess your ability to use 12, key Adaptive Skills.
- Solicit, clarify, and effectively utilize feedback
from others about the effectiveness of your adaptive skills.
- Surface and reduce defensiveness and resistance
to feedback.
- Use awareness and collaborative coaching strategies
to strengthen a given adaptive skill.
