Research has indicated that the average person's perception of themselves is only 50% accurate. At previous retreats, this statistic has been consistently validated as personal PAL Feedback Reports were shared with participants. Some participants perceived the effectiveness of their applied leadership skills and impact on others with 90% accuracy and others with only 10% accuracy. Groups most often averaging close to the 50% average.

In interviewing participants, we have consistently found that those having higher degrees of accurate self perception had higher degrees of openness to personal performance feedback. They had also taken the initiative to encourage those they worked with to openly give them specific performance feedback on a regular basis... specifically feedback  regarding attitudes expressed, what and how they said things, and leadership and managerial behaviors.  They were judged by their peers, subordinates and bosses to be more excellent leaders and highly desirable to follow!  People were more committed to achieving the organization's vital goals hand-in-hand with them.

Honest and sincere 360o feedback, both "positively reinforcing" and "course correcting", is an important key to quicker and easier personal and professional growth and performance improvement. This retreat is your chance to grow and go to higher levels of excellence as a leader at home and at work.  You'll receive vital feedback from the trusted feedback partners you select and uncover blind spots that deter your optimum effectiveness as a leader.

Dr. Mac and selected colleagues facilitate and coach participants during this three day, two night weekend retreat as they "take stock" and focus on their own development as a high integrity leader. This annual retreat is designed to meet your specific leadership development needs and the individual needs of  the others attending. Our focus is on helping you effectively position yourself to begin applying the strategies and tools you need to achieve the new goals you establish. You begin setting new goals after you have completed your self feedback reports and received selected feedback from people you trust and respect. (Examples: Spouse, boss, staff members, customers, and service providers.) You decide the best seven persons to give you 360 degree feedback about your leadership impact on them!  You will also receive feedback from your fellow Roundtable members as you all reflect and share in small groups throughout the weekend.

The UCLA Conference Center at Lake Arrowhead is where we conduct the quarterly public retreats. It is a beautiful, quiet and first class place to relax, contemplate,  and prepare yourself to grow in leadership excellence. You can "take a tour" of our favorite retreat facility by clicking on the "take a tour" link above.

During the weekend you will receive and process the feedback surveys that have been sent anonymously to our ProActive Leadership office for processing, synthesizing, and developing individual feedback reports for each participant. There are nine ProActive Leadership Feedback Reports that will be shared with you in appropriately spaced increments during the course of the retreat.

Each segment of the anonymous personal leadership feedback Dr. Mac receives from your "feedback partners" will be processed into reports.  You will be given them as nine separate sets of Feedback Reports for you to process throughout the weekend.  After receiving each Feedback Report, time is scheduled for you to:

  • Read and reflect upon your Feedback Report and analyze it.

  • Share, discuss, and do affirmation and problem analysis of your Feedback Report in small consultation Roundtable groups.

  • Define what you see as your new personal and leadership growth needs and goals.

  • Declare your personal decisions and commitment to an action plan to achieve your new goals.

  • Receive follow-up, review, feedback and consultation from your Roundtable colleagues on your action plan.

The content of your 360 degree PAL Feedback Reports from your selected feedback partners includes:

  • The degree to which you express the PAL Attributes that build trust and rapport with others.

  • The leadership Strengths and Shortcomings they believe you manifest.

  • The effectiveness they see in your use of the Adaptive Skills.

  • The Leadership Impact they believe you have on your company and staff.

  • The Leadership Behaviors they observe you manifesting.

  • The Personal Styles they see you using to communicate and interact with others.

  • The degree to which you manifest Functional and Dysfunctional behaviors.

  • The degree to which you throw up Twelve Communication Roadblocks.

  • The degree to which you effectively use all aspects of your Lead-Power.

As a participant, you will also engage in taking and processing a number of surveys over the weekend.  You will reflect on them, share them with your small Roundtable group, and receive feedback from the members of your Roundtable.

Throughout the workshop retreat, you will experience short segments of "how to" leadership skill input, teaching, modeling, practice, feedback, and coaching.
